Let’s Talk Christmas Cards.
Christmas Greetings. Christmas Slogans. Christmas Letters. Christmas Hellos.
Hard Copies. Originals. Signature Signed. By Hand.
Is there still a Place for Christmas Cards?
I Have Always Said Yes. But this Year I wavered.
With Social Media, Holiday Messages of Love and Joy can be Dispersed at Breakneck Speed.
Why Then Bother to Mail a Christmas Card?
The process of Creating and Sending Cards is Time-Consuming and Expensive.
And Who Really Cares Anymore Anyway?
Well. The Truth is…I Care.
I Believe there is Still Room for a Special Delivered Greeting.
Kind of Like Chinese Take Out. How Delightful to Open Your Door to Hot Soup and Steamed Dumplings.
So Very Warm and Inviting.
It is Comforting to Know Someone Has Thought of You.
You are Loved.
And So, I Will Again Be Sending Holiday Cards.
Before Kids, I Designed, Drew and Colored My Cards.
Usually in the Summer I would begin designing the Card.
My Design was about a Significant Event of that Year.
A Wedding. New Job. Going to Law School. Moving Out West.
My First Card, circa 1981.
The new for us 1952 Truck, circa 2000. Before the babies.
Then Babies Came Along.
My Christmas Design needed to Incorporate our Beautiful Babies in the Greeting.
That’s When I Turned to Shutterfly.
This is Not a Sponsored Post, But I Love Shutterfly.
Shutterfly is Easy to Navigate. Fun to Do. Exquisite Designs. And Fast.
They Also Offer Good Discounts.
And It’s Not Just About Cards.
Personalized Gifts…Mugs. Large Scale Prints. Books. Movies. Even Ornaments.
Christmas Cards have a Long Colorful History.

It is now at the Smithsonian.

This 1917 Sentiment of adding a Personalized Greeting rings True Today.
Yes, This Year I am Sending Christmas Cards. And for the First Time, My Design has a Soft but Present Political Spin. Highlighting the Message of Love and Welcoming to All.
Hmm…Maybe it’s Not So Subtle. 🙂
Today in the World of Lightning Speed Swirling Sentiments.
I Shall Speak Softly and to You…Sending Messages of Merry Christmas.
Magic.
Well, I love this post to the max, Jeanne. I love christmas cards. I love writing them, picking them out, the excitement of going to the mail box to see if someone has sent me one — in the mail, please, pretty please! I love making them when I can and like you, I have turned to Shutterfly or Vistaprint (this year’s cards were Vistaprint and much less expensive but equal quality). I always add a message and when I realized that this year’s photo card left no room, well, I got little Christmas stationery so I could do it!
Your art is beautiful — so skilled in drawing. I can see why you miss it but if I had your lovely daughters, I would want to feature them on the cards as well! I was a card cover girl for my mom and dad for many, many years and I’m so glad today that I have those cards.
Well, I wish you a merry Christmas and if I knew how, I’d mail that card to you! (Oh, and thanks for the vintage article and the wonderful cards you showed. Such treasures!)
Hi Marmeladegypsy – thank you for your kind words…I would love to send you a card too! Merry Christmas!
A home run on this one
Love You Buddy. Always.
Please start drawing your cards again. They are beyond beautiful.
Wendy
