5th Grade Inventors.
Ahh…the Elementary School Science Fair. Is it that time already???
This Year Each Student Must Create an Invention on their Own.
An Invention to Solve a Common Problem.
Electronics and Water. Ms. Doodle’s Pick.
She Wanted to Invent Something to Protect an Electronic from Water Damage.
Even when the Electronic is Dropped/Immersed in Water….Toilet, Bathtub, Pond, Pool.
She calls it The Electro Case.
No Patent Yet…So You’re Free to Follow Along to Create Your Own Electro Case. 🙂
Here are the Step-By-Step Photo Instructions.
The Electro Case is Very Cheap to Make.
Just a Roll of Bubble Wrap (the little bubbles work best).
Hot Glue. Packing Tape.
Cut the Bubble Wrap to Fit the Electronic.
Make the Top Flaps longer than the Electronic so that the flaps will tuck in and cover front and back of the electronic.
Line the inside of the case with paper towel to test if water gets in.
Seal the sides with hot glue and tape.
Her First Electro Case had sewn sides. Disastrous Results. Don’t Sew it shut(!)
To Test the Case, She squirted Red Food Coloring in Water.
Any Red on the Paper Towel and She Knows Water Seeped in.
First Test: The Sewn Case.
10 Seconds in the Water.
But the Flip Phone is Fine.
And Something Unexpected Happened…
THE PHONE FLOATS ON TOP OF THE WATER. 🙂
Test 2: Hot Glue and Packing Tape Case.
Results: Just a Drop of Water in the Corner.
For Next Time, Better Taping will Help with the Seal.
The Electro Case.
It Sort Of Works. An On-Going Invention.
You Saw it Here First.
