Mom and Me and Paradise
The Beach is quiet now.
Party Boats docked. Leggy Girls with Beer-Gut Boys trail off to the bars.
It is only Mom and Me.
Waiting for Seagulls to Swarm and Dolphins to Feed.
Light Breezes Skim the Waves and Shiver Sunburned Skin.
I’m Hungry. She Nods with a crooked smile.
I know, Mom. The Hat. But I really wanted the ALOHA Hat.
The wide brim kept the Sun Off My Head All Day.
She Tosses the Line out to Sea. Hopes Run High.
The Line Pulls Taut.
Flames ignite the Driftwood. Yes. We’re having Fish Tonight!

This makes me miss the ocean. I lived on the Cali coast for most of my life. Now, I’m in the mountains. We have lakes and rivers, but it’s not the same.
I’m in the desert…ugh…guess that’s why I write/paint/dream about the ocean all the time. 🙂

End of May before we start to open up here, although I’ve been at work all the way through. Looking forward to some sort of normality again – and a trip to the beach with the kids would be something to look forward to this summer!

A sweet little story that made me want to be out on a boat, feeling the sea breezes right now. I imagine the Aloha hat would be perfect for keeping the hot sun at bay. Lovely photo of you, too, Jeanne. We’ve been having a mini-heatwave here in the UK, too – although I imagine it would seem cool compared to where you live. Glad to know you are all keeping safe.
