This is the Photo Prompt…and my story.

Just Keep Breathing
We must do what the doctors say. It’s the only way to kick this crap.
The delivered antibiotics, administered thrice daily for two ghastly months, are housed in an ingenious medical invention – a tennis ball with a tube. Once hooked to a picc line, the flow begins. Twenty minutes. Poof. Done. Wish I had invented this contraption.
Today’s box, with the sweet blue gingham tape, looked happy. Hurrying to get it inside out of the sun, she almost missed the note.
THIS IS IT! LOVE FROM PEDS ICU 🙂
She felt her strength returning as the tennis balls popped into their designated spot in the fridge. One final time.
This photo prompt gave me major PTSD vibes…maybe it’s all the COVID-19 safety precautions and health scares swirling around. I would have liked my story to be about a birthday package from a far away friend. But, nope, all I could see was the dreaded box of medicine delivered weekly to our door. Three Years Ago. So glad we are beyond this. But now being forced to stay close to home, I am sometimes jerked back into the world of the parent of a sick child…waiting and hoping and trying to keep everyone safe.
Here’s to happy endings for us all, everywhere.
With a strong dose of Magic.
