Hand Made Quilts sprinkle a home with love and are well, just lovely.
But how to find the time to create these cozy works of art???
The Secret…SIX INCH SQUARES!
Here’s the Very Simple Step-by-Step…Hold On…This is Quick!
Step One: Select your favorite fabric patterns and textures, With a rotary cutter, cut the fabric into 6 1/4″ x 6 1/4″ squares. Stack squares in a pile ready to build. This will be a crazy Mix of Patterns. But all in Flannel.
Step Two: With the width and length of the quilt decided, sew the squares together into rows, then sew row to row. You’re building the Quilt Top.
A cat friend may help with the construction, then again, maybe not.
Keep going…everyone is still asleep and you’re building a masterpiece.
Who knew dapper Rubber Ducks loved French Art Nouveau Toile?
Shhh…take a break with Coffee and an English. You’ve got this!
Step Three: Now make a Quilt Sandwich;
Quilt Squares are the Top. Middle is Batting. Bottom Red Tartan.
Fold the bottom fabric over to the top for an edging border. This frames the quilt and keeps everything in place. Stitch around the border, then “stitch-in-the-ditch”. Sew Up and Down. Side to Side.
This mix of Cozy Flannels is Perfect for Fall.

A Little Bit Crazy. Certainly Fun. Quick to Make.
And that, my friends, is the MAGIC.
Genius! I never knew quilt making could be so quick!
Thanks Jayne – it’s the 6″ squares…no itty bitty piecing here. Glad you enjoyed it. ๐
I love this idea! I really need to get a sewing machine and give it a try.
Hi Anne – it really is easy…and fast! Almost instant gratification. ๐
Such a beautiful quilt. They are such a beautiful and useful piece of art! Enjoy Today!
Thank you Lori – and how true – I think quilts need to be used to really feel the love.
Charming!!!!
You make it look so easy! I hope you inspire many to fire up the sewing machines they have sitting around.
Thank you Diane…my quilts are always a bit wonky but that only adds to the charm. ๐
There is nothing like cuddling under a handmade quilt! I use one that my mother-in-law made for me as my sofa blanket and I swear I feel her love every time I wrap up in it. (She is no longer with us.)
Paula – how sweet and lovely that you can wrap yourself up in her love. For me, the joy of making a quilt is in sending the love.
What a great idea! That quilt looks so easy!
Happy day!
karianne
Thank you KariAnne for your encouragement and your sparkle!
You are so much more alive than I am before coffee! Very cute quilt … am going to be making one myself in the coming days for my nephews!
I love how fast this quilt comes together…a bit wonky, perhaps, but that’s where the love fills in the gaps. Have fun with your project – your nephews will love it!
Thatโs was super fast and looked easy. Now I just have to figure out the sewing machine.
You’ve got this one! Thanks for stopping by!
What! Thatโs amazing! When my son was in middle school, I set out to make home a quilt and I hoped it would at least be done by his high school graduation nope! Never even got started. ๐
Hi Danielle – maybe the 6″ square technique will be in your future. Happy Fall! ๐
How fun and cozy! You are a kindred spirit! I actually make the same kind of quilts for about six years! I also use six inch squares. I sell them and take part of the proceeds to find cure for brain tumors.
How wonderful to meet you Kim – and to be kindred spirits – how beautiful. I applaud your efforts to give back for a crucial cause in such a fun creative way.
Talk about immediate gratification. This is a great project!
Truth be told, Jennifer…I don’t have the patience for the tiny pieced quilts…6″ is a great way to go! Happy Fall!
Impressive! Like the kiddie fabrics!
Hi Linda – thank you! Happy Fall!
This was so cool! I’ve always wanted to learn how to quilt.
A dear friend and colleague taught me how…we began with the 6″ square…I loved the speed of putting the quilt together that I never wanted to move forward to tiny pieced, intricate patterns…I let the fabrics create the design. Happy Fall Stacy!
These would make great gifts! I’m sure kiddos love to snuggle with these.
You are so right, Marie…these do make wonderful gifts!
Great choice of fabrics – I especially love the zebra. I’ve made quick strip quilts before but never squares. Wonderful job.
Thanks Carol – strip quilts sound interesting and new to me! A fun new project on the horizon!
