My Secret Tips to Look Fabulous on Zoom Calls!

1. Lighting is Key!

Let’s Begin with What Doesn’t Work…

Overhead Lighting. No.

Side Lighting. No.

Back Lighting. No.

2. Camera Angle.

The Goal is to Look Up into the Camera. Never look down on the camera. The camera should be above eye level.

Set up the laptop about chest-height. Use books to elevate the laptop.

3. Test yourself before the meeting to see if all the angles and lighting work. Log on to Zoom and check out the camera angle, lighting, and audio.

4. Hair and Make up. A bit of eyeliner, mascara, lipstick. Hair pulled up or neatly secured. Messing with hair is distracting. So is Touching your face, Wiggling around, and Fidgeting…all the things your mother told you never to do in public. And this is, oh, so very public.

5. Keep distractions to a minimum. Both visual and audio. A dedicated space for Zoom is best, but if that isn’t possible, keep backgrounds simple with no foot traffic swirling around you.

6. When on the Zoom call, look at the other people on the call. Don’t look into the lens of the camera. It will appear that you are only looking at yourself.

7. Dress business appropriate. At least on the Top. 🙂 Simple neckline. Simple jewelry. A Scarf.
