So Here’s My Most Favorite Trick to Keep Cats Out of the Tree…
VINEGAR!

Simple. Cheap. Not Messy. Done in a Flash.
Begin with a Beach Towel wrapped under the tree. This will protect the floor from the spray.
Set the Tree on top of the Towel.

Wrap Garland around the Base. Garland that will have to be thrown away at Season’s End.

Spray the Garland with Vinegar. ย Keep a Spray Bottle of Vinegar Handy to Respray/Refresh as Needed.

Other options for the Base of the Tree are Pine Cones or Pine Boughs.
Any Porous Material that the Vinegar can soak into will/should Work.

This Year I will use a Christmas Tree Collar to conceal the base of the tree and the Vinegar-sprayed garland.

Now only the Nutcrackers are Fair Game to this Rascal.

Won’t this method leave the room smelling like vinegar?
Hi Debra – we have found that the vinegar smell fades…a little goes a long way!
I think it will.
Cats also do not like citrus. A few oranges a!iced or tangerines would work, oo…and not smell vinegary. Thanks for sharing. ๐
Hi Karen – I’ll have to try the orange slices! Thanks! Jeanne
Put citrus IN vinegar and let them soak it up! I make citrus vinegar all the time for cleaning up cat messes and warding off cats from area I don’t want them in. For tree idea…simply place some orange or lemon peels in with Garland and set a small bowl of vinegar and citrus under the Garland, or just put your citrus peels around the bottom with vinegar soaked garland!
Great idea! I’m doing this for my tree! Thank You!๐ธ๐พ๐โ
Hi Andrea – Thanks! Jeanne
Yuk!
